Pärnu County is home to almost 30% of Estonia’s forest resources; accordingly, forestry and wood-processing are fields with a traditional background in the region. The timber industry companies occupy a large proportion in Pärnu County, in terms of people operating in the field as well as by the volume of industrial production. The timber industry of Pärnu County has moved gradually from the processing of material (sawmills) to manufacturing of final products (furniture, log cabins, module houses, other wood products).

Largest companies in the region are Skano Group AS, OÜ Valmos, OÜ Säästke, Ecobirch OÜ. Development of the timber industry is supported by specialties related to wood taught at the Vocational Centre of Pärnu County. The sector is also supported by the availability of resources (forest) and the supply chain, as well as the competence of people.

There are a total of approximately 82 companies and 1139 employees engaged in the timber industry.

Major products of the sector:
– sawn timber;
– planed timber;
– furniture;
– veneer;
– log and module houses.

In 2013 exports accounted for 40% of the total sales income of Pärnu County.

The total turnover of the sector in the county was EUR 86 556 643 in 2013, with export accounting for EUR 34 764 434 and profit 5.6%.
